About Christen

Christen has been teaching piano for 15 years and has had the pleasure of working with a wide range of students.

She started piano at the age of 5 and competed in local festivals in high school. Each year she was selected to progress to the state level as a category winner. She also worked as a church accompanist for five years, has accompanied singers and local musicals in addition to accompanying students and playing local events such as cocktail hours and featured music performances at nursing homes. Her piano lessons began with a Juilliard-trained opera singer in her home town and continued at both NYU and Temple University. Most recently she had lessons with Dr. Ivo Kaltchev and piano pedagogy with Dr. James Litzelman, both of Catholic University in Washington D.C. She also studied piano pedagogy during her time at Peabody Conservatory with the head of the Peabody Prep piano department. Christen has taught piano at both Baltimore School of Music and International School of Music in Bethesda, MD.

Christen also plays viola professionally with several orchestras in the area. She always encourages her students to take up a second instrument as well. Piano is the perfect foundation to branch out into any other musical endeavor!
